Heir Force Novel: Epilogue

Kate placed the photo on the page and pressed it down on the scrapbook page. She smiled remembering how Sarah looked up at Spencer the day she married him and they became a complete family. She closed the scrapbook and moved to the computer.

After Kate and Spencer married, Kate and Sarah moved to his place since he had a spare bedroom. Then Kate found a job working a couple days at the base library while Sarah went next door to Mrs. P’s.

Kate loved working and interacting with the library patrons. She got to see her coworkers often and they would catch up on their different lives. Her schedule rotated days each week, but at least she didn’t have to take trips or work overnight. She also loved being a wife and a mom more than she ever thought she would. She was thankful for her loving husband and beautiful daughter.

Sarah was adjusting well and loved her step-dad. It didn’t take her long to call Spencer Daddy instead of Mr. Daddy. Sometimes Kate would tease him by calling him that when Sarah wasn’t around. He always grinned at her.

Spencer was staying in the Air Force for now. Next year elections were coming up and they were hopeful a more military-minded president would appreciate the armed forces more than the current one. Spencer was busy taking online classes to finish his degree so he could have more options when he did get out.

Today they were all going to the park after Spencer got off from work. It was a beautiful spring day to take Buttons on a walk and let Sarah play on the swings.

But first she wanted to do something. Kate glanced at the framed photo of her and Sarah sitting on the desk before she hovered her fingertips above the keyboard. Being a mother now, she had thought more and more of her own mother. What had happened to her? Was she still alive? Did she have some sort of condition that caused her to leave? Kate placed her fingers on the keys and typed in Sylvia Langston in the search engine. Maybe Kate could find her. Maybe she couldn’t.

But she would at least try.

An Announcement!

Hello Readers!

I have started a new site, Michelle Connell Writes, and you can find it here:

http://michelleconnellwrites.net

I posted about our weekend retreat there. We had a great time and got lots of work done! Plus, we ate delicious food (mostly food from home) and played Monopoly (R) Deal! So read all about it, and then you might want to follow that site soon as I’m going to run a cover contest–with prizes, for my upcoming book, Cookie Encounter!

See you there!

A Bridal Shower

In mid-January, Kate received news that her paperwork had been approved. She only had three weeks left to work. She was thrilled she could stay home with Sarah before the wedding. She had so much packing and planning to do.

Her cast came off and she felt a whole lot better. The wedding would be simple, they would get married at the courthouse and then have a reception at the Scott Club. Spencer’s family was coming in for the wedding and some of them were staying with Mrs. P and some with Spencer.

Fun Friday! Goin’ on Retreat!

I’m going on retreat this weekend with the writing group I’m in. Yay! We will stay in a Boatel–yes, your read that right. A boatel is a room near the lake where you can easily get to your boat. We don’t have one, but we like to be right on the water. Very peaceful, and exactly what I need right now.

I’m constructing my new site, and will announce it soon. I’m trying to figure out MailChimp for contests, etc. and am not having an easy time with it. Not at all. Maybe on retreat I can figure it out with the help of my buddies.

Anyway, lots going on for me as we wrap up Kate and Spencer’s story. I hope you are enjoying it and will like the ending. I’ve had fun writing it. I think I will actually miss my characters, and they aren’t even real! I guess that’s normal for writers. 🙂

Anyway, that’s the news for now.

Until next time,

Michelle

Later Christmas Night

After a very excited Sarah went to bed and Spencer left to drive Mrs. P home, Kate changed into her robe and slippers and enjoyed a cup of cocoa while she waited. She stared at her ring, not quite believing what happened earlier.

“Want anything?”she asked Spencer when he arrived.

“No, I’m still good from cake, thanks.” He sat on the sofa next to her and put his arm around her.

“I had no idea you had done so much shopping recently.” Kate looked at him, giving him a sly look. She finished her drink and set the cup on the table.

“Caught you off guard, didn’t it?” Spencer gave her a cheeky grin.

“You can say that again.”

“Does it fit ok?” Spencer indicated her ring.

“Perfectly. I love it.”

“Good. Did Sarah settle down? She was pretty excited.”

“It took a minute to get her back down to earth, but she finally calmed down. I read a couple of her new books and that helped.”

“That’s good.”

They didn’t know where or how yet to have a wedding, but the couple did pick a date. They chose the following Valentine’s Day.

Until next time,
